Life on the farm today and some new babies

Around noon we left to go look at some cows we might buy from our friends. We walked in, they were eating lunch and was invited to join which we did. Good friends and food, how much better can it get. After that we went to look at the cows and help them doctor a sick cow. That was quite the experience, I stayed in the truck so I wouldn't scare the cows since they don't know me. Yes that's right they don't like people they don't know. After a while I heard a lot of noise and here came their bull and he wasn't very happy. I guess he didn't like it that they had one of his girlfriends in the pen and he couldn't get to her. He started pawing the ground and bawling. He was hot and his tongue was hanging out. He started toward the truck where I was setting and both windows were down so I quickly rolled them up. He walked past the driver side and looked straight at me and then he went around to the bed of the truck and stuck his nose in there. I will admit I was getting a little nervous. I was hoping he didn't try to turn the truck over. The last thing I want it a two thousand pound bull mad and me in the way. After that we went to our farm where we are starting to have babies and here are some pictures I took there.

My Grandpa and Me

This is a picture of me and my Grandpa Willis when I was a baby. I love this picture. A little baby girl and her Grandpa, how sweet is that? I miss my grandparents, all of them. My one set of grandparents lived right next door and the other set lived down town. All I had to do was ride my bicycle or my horse to their house. I remember sitting on the porch swing with my Grandma eating ice cream. My sister and I were just talking and laughing today about our little Grandpa. I miss those days.

Snowy Morning

Well it FINALLY snowed. On Tuesday morning (Valentine's Day) we had a pretty snow. I took the morning off from work to take pictures. My husband and I went for a ride down to Mill Creek to take pictures, then took pictures of my friend's horses on the same road we live on and then back home to take pictures of the cows. Of course Jake (The Farm Dog) went too. The red cow is Lucky Girl, we raised her on a bottle so she is really tame not that any of our cows here at the house are wild as you will see. The cows at the farm are not this tame just because there are too many of them. I will post the story of Lucky Girl sometime soon and pictures as she has grown up.

Cooking like Grandma on Sunday

Both my grandmother's cooked big meals on Sundays so I always try to do that too. Yesterday I started off with blueberry oatmeal pancakes and turkey sausage, made a marinade for a pork loin which I sliced later because we ran out of time and my husband grilled it on the charcoal grill, then I made apple pie bundles. We went to the farm to get hay for the girls at our house and found a couple of new babies there. I will post those pictures later. We have 35 cows at our house and there are around 60 or so at the farm, a lot of them expecting babies so there will be about 100 there by spring. That keeps my husband pretty busy taking care of all that plus running his business. His dad is 89 now so he can't keep up with it as much as he used too. That's all right, we really enjoy it. We have a lot of new babies at our house, I will try to post their pictures this week. Back to the Sunday cooking, my husband always tells me my grandma's would be proud of me.

Mill Creek in Winter

Down the road just a little ways is this pretty creek. It's called Mill Creek. We go there in the summer sometimes to play in the water. This picture was taken last winter after a snowfall. We haven't had any snow yet this year to speak of.

Hash Brown Frittata

Sunday morning I made a Hash Brown Frittata. Kind of my own recipe, I just make it up as I go along. In a oven proof skillet I brown hash brown's in a little oil (the kind in the refrigerator section). Then brown sausage link's (I use turkey sausage, way less fat). Cut the sausage in bite size pieces and mix place on top of hash brown's. Whisk 6 eggs in a bowl, add a dash of milk and pour over potatoes and sausage. Add shredded cheddar cheese on top and I also cut up green peppers too. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until eggs are set.
