Brown Eggs.
Is it just me or do brown eggs taste better? Well one thing is for sure, they sure make a pretty picture in a thrift shop beautiful dish. By the way I think I paid fifty cents for the dish at Goodwill and it is sitting on a lazy susan I bought at the flea market last summer, painted and put some french words on it.

Welcome to the Family!
I don't know how much you all know about cattle but when a new baby is born it's kind of like the Welcome Wagon. All the cows come to see and smell and protect the little one. It's one of the sweetest things you will ever see. This little girl was born last Saturday, Richard and I were checking on them Sunday and I just happened to be there at the right time. We had caught her to ear tag her and when she bawled here they all came to protect her. These cows you see around her are all young heifers, her Mom is standing back just watching. They smell and nuzzle her and I think tell her they are here if she needs protection. It's really pretty touching. I wish you all could see this in person, it's really incredible. I love Farm Life!

Let me tell you a secret! Will you be my Valentine?
This sweet baby of ours telling the other sweet baby a secret. Take note of the heart around his eye. I believe it is for Valentine's Day. These two calves were born on the same day two weeks ago, they are one week old in the picture and best friends. We brought both of them to the house to warm them up, in fact I used my blow dryer on the black and white one. They are still in the barn because it has been so cold but are doing fine. I will put more pictures on later this week of them.

We saved her life!
This little girl was born week before last in below zero temperatures. We did not want any calves to be born in January but sometimes it just can't be helped. I was ready to leave for work when my husband Richard called me and said he needed help. I called my work to tell them I would be late. I drove to the field where they were and there he was with a new curly haired calf in the truck. He needed me to drive while he held her and hopefully the Mom would follow us. She did for a while but then we lost her because she couldn't see or smell her calf. He got out and carried her to the tailgate, showed her to her Mom and off we went with her following. She lost sight of the baby again and turned and started running back to the field where she had the baby. I turned and tried to head her off with my husband by this time laying in the bed of the truck trying to hold an 85 pound calf. I kept asking him if he was all right and he says just drive and head her off. Well, she went all the way to the back field so when we head her off he gets off and carries the calf to her so she can smell it. Once again we head for the barn which is quite a long way off. Keep in mind it is below zero and my husband is riding on the tailgate. You can see the strain on his face in the one picture because she is heavy. We get to the barn I jump out and open the gate to the stall and he carries the baby in and she goes in too. After he gets some hay down for them to lay on and we stuff hay in the holes where wind is blowing he puts the baby in the truck floor for about 45 minutes to get her dry and warm. She had just came into this cold world a little while before. I bet she thought WHOA, put me back in there where it was warm. We kept them in the barn about a week because of the cold and she is doing great now.We named her Curley Sue!

We moved to the farm!
It's been a busy summer and fall for us. We sold our house, had an auction where we had lived for 30 years, moved to our farm, totally remodeled our new house, (it's almost done) oh sure, I keep finding more things I want done. Our new house, we call it the farm house but it's not really an old farm house but a ranch house on a full basement that I needed to put my own touch on. When you look off the front porch all you see is land and cattle. We are at the back of the farm so our only neighbors are the cattle. We haven't moved the sheep but we are working on that. I miss seeing them in the field everyday so hopefully we will get them out here soon. This is my husband Richard's family farm where he grew up. It's a total of 600 acres, 200 hundred of it ours. Now that we have moved here the whole family lives here. There are about 100 cattle here that we all take care of. We love it here and I am loving this house as it becomes our home. I will post pictures soon as the decorating is about to begin, so until then here are some pictures of the farm.
